Designer Thakoon at Target

I was strolling through Target acquiring the minutia of life and saw this dress (minus the shoes)designed by Thakoon (tie-koon) Panichgul for Go International. The Thailand born Omaha bred designer is known for his stellar floral frocks that go from day to night. Celebrities such as Demi Moore and Sarah Jessica Parker rock his stylish threads. Even First Lady elect Michelle Obama has this Thailand born clothier on speed dial for his wonderful collages of color and keen eye on feminity. I was a tad shocked that tons of merchandise was still on the racks. The prices are completely reasonable from $14.99 to $39.99 for straight off-off the runway looks.Then I realized that this stuff is totally for springtime in the city where the living is easy. The fabrics are light and airy, while the hues are bold and plentiful. It's fa-fa-fa freezing in most of the country and here in LA it's much colder than I appreciate. I completely admire Thakoon's take on cheap chic, and if it was a smidge warmer I'd indulge my wallet. Right now, I need a sweater instead of a summa dress. In full disclosure, Thakoon does have a few cardigans but I wasn't blown away. I think the dresses and skirts are the piece de resistance of this collection!

Legendary Star Eartha Kitt Dies at 81

 

 

My fellow fashionistas one of the original grand divas Eartha Kitt passed away today (Dec. 25) at the age of 81. The Emmy winner died of colon cancer in New York with her only daughter by her side.The multi-talented icon was known for her raspy voice and purring like a cat. Who could forget her purr-fectly divine role as Catwoman on the sixties T-V show "Batman." Kitt was the quintessential star of stage and screen. She made me laugh as Lady Eloise in the classic hit "Boomerang." "Marrrrr-cuuussss, I'm not wearing any panties" was one of the best lines in the entire film. It was a small part but Kitt made it absolutely unforgettable! During her early career, she dared to take chances in a time when women of color were relegated to being maids. Eartha Kitt dreamed and dreamed big to become one of the world's most adventurous singer/actresses of her generation. She has left an indelible mark on the world stage and will not be soon forgotten. Ironically, her naughty but nice Christmas standard "Santa Baby" was certified gold last week according to Billboard.com.

KERRY WASHINGTON HOT HOT HOT IN HELMUT LANG

Kerry you betta stop!! The beautiful actress stole the show in Helmut Lang at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association salutes Young Hollywood event in Los Angeles. Who knew Ms. Washington could bring the heat like this... usually she's clad in fabulous couture gowns flown in from Italy. I'm really feeling this sexy smoke grey leather bustier and skinny black leather pants! I seriously need this entire ensemble in my life. Those killer patent Louboutin's heels are totally making my palms sweaty. I know its gross, but it happens when I go into style shock! Well done Kerry for proving glam girls can keep em guessing from time to time, now watch ya back...cause you know PETA don't play!!

ROCK AROUND THE TREE IN STYLE

Tis the season my fellow fashionistas to partake in awkward company and family holiday gatherings. I've gone to a few parties already and it's really not about wishing goodwill to your fellow man, it's about how you look. That's the only thing that matters, cause if you look good you feel good. Not to mention, when uncle Ralph starts yapping about aunt Mildred's new blond wig you can just relish in your fabulousness. Holiday parties shouldn't be taken for granted. Don't just whip out your dull duds or sexy Club wear. It's the perfect time to look chic and elegant by wearing haute courturesque clothes. Go for bold color, unusual cuts, personal flair, and killer shoes! Stay away from excess sequins ala a disco ball, Christmas sweaters (no for real don't do it), and most of all don't let it all hang out. Proper undergarments is a must! You don't have to go broke to look phenomenal. Everyone is having obscene sales right now, and if all else fails H&M, Target, and Forever 21 will save your budget.

 

 

 

EUCERIN TO THE RESCUE

My fellow fashionistas my quest to quench my dry skin has ended. My longtime BFF told me about Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Lotion because she was tired of my whining about my parched skin. This stuff is the real deal. It goes on a tad greasy but it melts into your skin after a few minutes. My mahogany skin was sooo soft I told my friends to "touch my skin, feel it" of course they ooohed and awwwed! Eucerin even has Alpha hydroxy to slough (love this word cause you have to buck your teeth to say it) away flaky skin to slowly reveal super touchable skin. The cool thing is it's unscented, so it doesn't interfere with my elegant fragrance. It totally lasts all day too. When I get home my skin is still moisturized and silky. I know some of us tend to suffer from the dreaded ashy skin, but with Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Lotion your worries are over. I bought my bottle from Long's Drugs for $11.49, but I got 25% more product,Score! My fellow fashionistas this is a must have product. Put it on your Christmas list!

JENNIFER LOPEZ STUNNING AT HOLLYWOOD PREMIERE

OMG!Jennifer Lopez killed the competition at "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" premiere in Los Angeles. She's not even in the film but Jen sashayed down the red carpet looking like the mega star that she is! The new mom of twins caused jaws to drop in a winter white Roberto Cavalli gown. Clearly back to her pre-baby weight in record time, J-Lo proves she knows how to make an entrance. Jen and I live by the same philosophy "never miss an opportunity to look fabulous." Muy Caliente!

SEXY JESSICA ALBA'S 2009 CAMPARI CALENDAR

The breathtaking Jessica Alba is back in all her glamorous glory for the 2009 Campari calendar (it's an Italian alcohol company). The Hollywood starlet bared her bronze bod just six months after the birth of her first child. Absolutely stunning, if I could be guaranteed a svelte figure this soon after having a baby I'd gladly become a mother of six. "I'm usually walking around in comfy clothes, with a baby on my arm," says Alba, 27, and it's nice to dress things up and feel sophisticated, sexy, and surrounded by so much beauty."  The hot mom joins a bevy of beauties who were previous calendar girls including Salma Hayek and Eva Mendes. The Campari calendar featuring Jessica Alba in photos taken by famed photographer Mario Testino will be available by the end of the year. Magnifque!

Olay Quench Deep Moisture, Not Quite Right

My quest to find suitable moisturization for my mocha skin ended at CVS. In the December issue of Essence magazine I saw the stunning Angela Bassett in an ad for the new Olay Quench Deep Moisture with Cocoa butter, Jojoba and Vitamin B3. I figure if it's good enough for radiant skin Angela Bassett, it would certainly deliver my dry skin from the Mojave desert. Plus, I like the lavender bottle. It's my favorite color. I paid $8.69 plus tax for the big bottle of Olay Quench Deep Moisture. I floored it home so I could begin having soft silky skin like Angela Bassett. Initially I wasn't thrilled with the light powdery scent, but it was doable. I applied it all over and waited a couple of hours to see if my dry skin blues were over. On the moisturization scale it was a 5.5, not exceptional but it didn't fail miserably either. This is not a product for extra dry skin, normal skin could probably benefit more. However, I began to notice specks of glitter all over my legs and arms, basically everywhere I applied the lotion. What in tarnation? I'm not on the Junior Varsity spirit team, so why the heck are there sparkles in my freakin' lotion. There wasn't a warning on the bottle. Then I touched my face under duress, and the shiny stuff was now on my face. @!#% This is false advertisement. Olay Quench Deep Moisture is fine for a night out but not for everyday use, it's childish and cheesy. I mean throw a spotlight on me and I'm pigtailed tap dancing ten year old on America's Got Talent. Needless to say I returned Olay Quench Deep Moisture and purchased something else. Please let this be the one...

BLISS BODY BUTTER IS A BUST

My fellow fashionistas I've been slathering on Bliss Body Butter from Sephora for a few weeks and I'm thoroughly disappointed. Don't get me wrong the Vanilla and Bergamot scent smells like pure bliss and it left my mahogany skin feeling like fine cashmere, but this body butter was dreadful on maximum moisture. After a couple of hours, my skin looked parched and begged for relief. Whatdaheck! I felt   hoodwinked and bamboozled by fancy packaging and clever marketing. I swear that won't happen to me again until my next Sephora visit because for $35 (yep three-five), I expected to put an end to my dry skin forever, especially if it says "maximum moisture" on the front of the tube. I think Bliss Body Butter is great if your skin isn't dying of thirst or you just want a cream that smells heavenly. If not this chi chi body butter is downright blasphemous! I've read all the glorious reviews about this product but it just didn't live up to the hype. I'm gonna continue my quest for moisture at Target for less. Stay tuned!
